Ryan is inspired to swim for many reasons, such as to feel the calm of the water, the joy of improvement, and the thrill of competition. He is an all-around sports fan, from football to tennis to golf, he loves to learn more about what it means to make a great athlete.

He fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming an Olympic swimmer during the 2016 Olympics in Rio—setting a new world record in the 100m back and winning 3 golds. During down time, the former California Berkeley star enjoys golfing and advocating for youth water safety as a Goldfish Swim School ambassador.
