Josh Liendo
History in the making
Josh made history as the first Black Canadian swimmer to win gold at the FINA World Championships and has consistently broken Canadian records in freestyle and butterfly. His achievements include strong performances at NCAA Championships, World Championships, and the Olympics where he was a part of the men’s 4×100-m freestyle relay that broke the Canadian record and finished fourth.
Toronto to Trinidad and back
Born in Toronto, Joshua moved with his parents to Trinidad as a toddler before coming back to Canada at the age of 9. His return made him aware that he was a minority in his sport. “It wasn’t (something) I ever thought about in Trinidad…When I came here, it was definitely different.”
